Setting sail in 2025, Douglas Mawson is the latest state-of-the-art expedition vessel in a line of purpose-built ships that have redefined small-ship adventure cruising.

Named after the renowned Australian geologist and explorer, Douglas Mawson is designed for global discovery. Featuring the innovative Ulstein X-BOW® and enhanced sustainability measures, the ship accommodates up to 130 guests on Expeditions and 154 on Small Ship Cruises, ensuring a smooth, quiet, and comfortable journey. It also offers the most extensive range of staterooms yet, including dedicated single accommodations.

Onboard, guests will find a variety of amenities designed to enhance their experience and foster connections with fellow travelers. After a day of exploration, they can relax on the back deck with a swim in the heated outdoor pool, unwind on a sunbed, or soak in one of two Jacuzzis. A gym and sauna provide additional opportunities for relaxation and wellness, while the Citizen Science Centre offers a chance to engage in hands-on learning. Dining options include two restaurants serving delicious meals in a welcoming atmosphere. With multiple observation areas throughout the ship, guests can take in breathtaking landscapes and watch for wildlife in comfort.

Despite the luxurious onboard features, Douglas Mawson remains dedicated to immersive exploration, with a focus on getting travelers off the ship and into the heart of their surroundings. On Small Ship Cruises in the Mediterranean, British Isles, and beyond, curated Your Choice excursions provide deeper cultural and historical experiences.

The ship’s inaugural season marks Aurora Expeditions’ long-awaited return to East Antarctica for the first time in 13 years. New itineraries include Mawson’s Antarctica, an expedition to East Antarctica departing from Hobart in honor of its namesake, a semi-circumnavigation of Antarctica, and in-depth explorations of the Subantarctic Islands. Following its Antarctic season, Douglas Mawson will journey north to the Atlantic Coast, British Isles, and Mediterranean, offering guests the chance to experience Europe’s diverse cultures, rich history, and stunning landscapes.

With its cutting-edge design, commitment to sustainability, and carefully crafted itineraries, Douglas Mawson is set to usher in a new chapter of small-ship expedition cruising.
