Detailed Description

Snow Island lies southwest of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, separated by the 6km-wide Morton Strait. The island is approximately 90% ice-covered, with outcrops mainly restricted to President Head Peninsula at the northern end. This peninsula exposes Late Cretaceous sedimentary rocks containing plant fossils including ferns, pteridosperms, and gymnosperms, providing valuable evidence of Antarctica's ancient climate.
